DC fast charging at a drive-through restaurant site

Two high-power DC chargers added to an operating quick-service restaurant, with separate authority metering for the chargers and the restaurant.

The brief

A charging network operator needed an approval set for two DC fast chargers in the car park of a trading restaurant. The site takes supply from a 1 MVA kiosk substation, and the charging load had to be metered separately from the restaurant without interrupting it.

What we documented

We documented the electrical schematic from the 22 kV kiosk through a 1000 A main switch to two metered sections: an EV charging section with its own authority CT meter feeding two DC fast chargers, each limited to 400 A, and the restaurant section with its own CT meter feeding the existing 400 A main distribution board through a new cable joint in a re-purposed pillar. A cable schedule sets out conductor size, material, insulation and installation method for every run.

The set also includes a drawing index and legend, a charger mounting detail with the concrete pad, bollards and conduit entry dimensioned, and a site floor plan with drawing notes covering slab scanning, penetrations and sign-off.

Where the care went

The restaurant had to keep trading. The schematic makes the changeover sequence readable: what is re-used, what is jointed and where isolation happens.

Sheets from this set are not shown. The drawings were issued under the client’s title block and marked confidential, so this case study is text only.
